Follicle stimulating hormone or FSH is a naturally produced hormone. It originates in the pituitary glands. It is found in humans and in animals. It controls growth, reproduction and pubertal maturation. It is required in the growth process and maturation.

FSH is a type of protein. It contain a beta subunit of 118 amino acids. It stimulates the maturation of germ cells in both male and female. It stimulates the maturation of seminiferous tubules and spermatogenesis in men. The sufficient levels of FSH is needed in the growth of men.

FSH controls the menstrual cycle in women. It also regulate the production of eggs by the ovaries. It stimulates ovarian maturation and growth process. The FSH rate in each woman may vary.

Follicle Stimulating Hormone Test

FSH test is done to determine cause of infertility. It finds out low sperm count in men and egg supply in women. It is helpful to analyse the irregularities in the menstraual cycle of a women. It determines whether the woman has had a menopause and it also detrmines the abnormalities in the pituitary gland.

Low FSH rate may result in gonadal fuction in men. It is a condition where a peson does not have the normal sperm count. In females, low FSH counts may result in stopage of reproductive cycles.

FSH is one of the most important hormones produced in the dogs’ body. It is developed in the pituitary glands of both male and female canine. It is used in reproduction process. It stimulates the production of androgens and spermatogenesis.
